Last Saturday I attended an event called The Hair Raising Affair. Before I go in to any further detail about it I want to give a huge shoutout to Chelsey from Evolve Studio. She is a single mother that works full time and she planned this amazing event in just 2 short months. You never would have known by how well it was planned! Chelsey did an amazing job and I feel so grateful to know such a kind and selfless person. Hats off to you Chels, you turned a dream into a reality and you should be so proud of yourself!
The Hair Raising Affair raised funds for The Vernon Women's Transition House and The Sweet Smiles Society. There were also 3 individuals who cut their hair and donated it to Children with Hair Loss and Angel Hair for Kids. These two charities provide wigs for financially disadvantaged children suffering from burns and cancer. Chelsey's goal was to raise $6000. The final total is not in yet, however she knows that the original goal was more than TRIPLED!
There were a few amazing surprises throughout the night that no one, not even Chelsey, knew would happen. Chelsey was planning on cutting off the majority of her hair, only to be left with a short pixie cut. 10 minutes before Chelsey was about to get up on the stage to have her hair cut an announcement was made. If $1000 was raised before Chelsey's scheduled time she would shave her head. A bowl went around the venue and the money started coming in. 2 minutes before Chelsey was set to be on stage they did a count. Because there was such a short amount of time to collect additional donations, they were only able to collect $520, $480 short of the $1000 goal. This is when the generosity of three great people came in. Raj of R. Bagha Orchards and Jim & Lori Ryan decided that they would split the remaining amount, $240 each! This was not the first donation that they had made either. They were gold sponsors of the event, meaning that they had already donated $1000.
The next surprise happened after Chelsey had finished getting her head shaved and as the event was winding down. Jim Ryan mentioned that he would donate another $1000 if someone else would donate their hair. That is when Cyndy stepped up to the plate. Cyndy had no intention of cutting her hair that night, but she didn't hesitate when the opportunity arose!
The Hair Raising Affair was a huge success! Congratulations Chelsey, you did an absolutely amazing job! Also, it couldn't have been done without the kindness and generosity of everyone that attended, as well as the event sponsor!
